The
mountainwalk goes from the third highest peak (Pico Arieiro
1818m) |
| to
the highest peak of the island (Pico Ruivo 1862m). From here we
go |
| down
the north side to Achada do Teixeira. This is the most famous- |
| and
without any doubt - one of the nicest mountain walks of Madeira. |
|
The
path was made in the late sixties and the parts where there
could be vertigo problems are well protected with fences.
From the top of the Pico Ruivo you will have spectacular
panoramic views over almost the whole island.

| We
start our walk in the area of |
| Machico
and follow the levada |
| through
lush farmland and the |
| forest
of Pine and Mimosa. |
| Here
we leave the levada and |
| walk
up to Boca do Risco which |
| opens
the sudden view to the |
| ocean.
People say that no other |
| rugged,
proud beauty. We
follow |
| the
coastal path to finish our walk |
| in
Larano, above Porto da Cruz.

Porto Moniz |
This spectacular coast walk takes place
in the extreme west of the island. On a
step-like path, we descend to Quebrada
Nova. Our walk intrigues for its unique
views over the turquoise sea, surg i n g
with its waves to the sun-lit cliffs. After
a round over the terraces at the seaside,
we ascend to the village of Santa. |

Lakes
of Madeira

Come
along with us on a variegated, unforgettable walk

is known by only a few naturefriends. We start off on

the
high plateau Paúl da Serra and follow the Levada da
|
|
Ribeira
Grande. Soon we descend to the Lagoa do Vento
|
|
from
where we have a breath-taking view into the valley of
|
|
Rabaçal.
There we can have a peaceful picnic or go for a
|
|
|
refreshing
swim in a cristal-clear |
| lake.
Further along, you will see
|
| beautiful
water cascades followed
|
| by
one of Madeira´s original
|
| levadas
which is surrounded by
|
| bizarr
vegetation. The last part
|
| of
the walk takes us along the
|
| high-plateau
itself where we will
|
| find
peace and quiet, wonderful
|
| views
around and, at the end, |
|
|
onto
the villages of the southwest.
